Doug and Darby (April 2008)
Our charters aboard Sayang must be peppered with superlatives.
Ratna and Paul are marvelously adept and gracious hosts who consistently go above and beyond what is expected. Sayang is a beautiful, meticulously cared for yacht. On this, our second charter aboard the ship, we felt a little more relaxed, a little more renewed, and a LOT more pampered, each day.
The weather in April was noticeably cooler than on our previous charter in June; we went ashore and purchased jackets on the second day. Long sleeves weren’t needed often, but planning for the possibility of cool evenings at dinner on deck is a good idea.
The snorkeling was stunning (as before), with neon-colored fish and sea turtles at our reach. Paul and Ratna suggested some wonderful walks as a variation to swimming and snorkeling. The wild sea crashing into the steep rocky shores on Norman Island and the conch-shell decorated graves of victims from the doomed ship Rhone on Salt Island are sights that we will not forget.
When it comes to dining, we are not sure how Ratna accomplishes all that she does! The routine is this: a bountiful breakfast as the sun rises above the horizon; chilled salads (and more) after a noon-hour swim, and, to end each day, a full-course dinner under the stars. In our view, this could not possibly be improved upon.
We brought books to read and music to entertain us as we sailed. We didn’t need them. The indulgences of Sayang, the whistle of the wind, and the forces of the sea were all that we needed for a week of total escape.
Each evening, as he presented the wine at dinner, Paul would ask, “Is there anything else?’ No, Paul and Ratna, we can’t think of anything more.
See you again, soon!
